Choosing joy when snarky is the fruit of the day

“Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.” ~ James 1:2-3, NLT

“But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” ~ Galatians 5:22-23, AMP

Choosing Joy Over Snarky

Lord, what a wonderful God You are. You are overflowing with mercy and goodness. You are long-suffering in all Your ways — thank goodness. I have been none of those things lately. But, You know what Lord? I’m choosing joy over my bad attitude.

choosing joy

I have been so snarky lately, and I don’t know why. Yes, I’m tired. Yes, I’m a bit overwhelmed by my responsibilities. But that is no excuse — I have you!

Your Spirit lives within me. The fruit of Your Spirit is planted deep within me, and the last time I checked, snarky was not one of them. Please forgive me, Lord.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and uphold me with Your love.

I’m choosing joy, Lord. I’m choosing to think on those things worthy of praise, because when I do this, my eyes see Your lovely face, my heart awakens to Your abiding Presence, and I find peace.

And peace begets joy.

Every. Single. Time.

The joy of You, Lord, is my strength. You have never failed me and I know You never will. Draw me nearer, Lord. Let me hear Your sweet whispers of affirmation and reassurance that all is well.

All is well because You’ve got the whole world in Your hands. I have no need to fear, to pout, to be snarky.

The Joy of the Lord is My Strength

You are my joy — my joy unspeakable.

Bless You, Lord. Thank You for helping me choose joy once again.

In the Name of Jesus I pray,

Amen
