Beneath the weight of darkness with its ebb and flow of threat, I couldn't help but compare our journeys through this difficult time.

The Ebb and Flow of Darkness

The sky reflected the conflict and turmoil of our nation. Dark billowing clouds rolled all about me. Their ebb and flow was not one massive blanket of darkness, but came in segments. Light — brilliant, not just ordinary light — burst through here and there, parting the sky and revealing the blues of heaven.

And to the east, a rainbow. Just a glimpse. But I saw it.

It was there.

We are wayfaring strangers traveling through, you know? This is not our home.

And yet, for now, it is.

And it’s hard.

As I drove home that day through the bursts of light, beneath the weight of darkness with its ebb and flow of threat, I couldn’t help but compare our journeys through this difficult time.

The political unrest is almost unbearable.

The divisions gut-wrenching.

The stench of a crippling virus that unfurls fear across our homes and community.

Light. Darkness. Teardrops like rain that soak the earth.

And the rainbow. God’s promise.

God’s Light Will Always Burst Through the Ebb and Flow of Darkness

He has not left us, and He promised He never will … if we believe Jesus is His Son and confess Him as Lord. That is the only condition. Not because we’re not worthy of His love otherwise, but because we ARE. God will always take care of His children. Though the earth trembles and the mountains slip into the sea, He remains. Steadfast. Everlasting. Love that knows no bounds.

His love will win over the ebb and flow of darkness every time.

Look for the rainbow.

Celebrate the light.
