“Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.”
(2Corinthians 2:14,15)

“…and through US diffuses – spreads – the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.”

I love this imagery.

WE take the fragrance of Christ to a hurting world.

Why would the Father use the word, ‘fragrance’ in describing our witness to others? In the Old Testament He often used the same concept of fragrance when describing the sacrifices offered to Him in worship. The offerings were referred to as a sweet aroma, holy and acceptable to God. When Jesus was sacrificed on the cross, He was given “for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.” (Ephesians 5:2)

The Lord desires for us to be a living sacrifice unto Him. The life that we live for Him bears the fragrance of Christ – holy and acceptable to God, our Father.

“For we are to God the fragrance of Christ…”

“For WE are TO GOD(!)…”

Are we?

SELAH!

Father, I want to be a sweet aroma to You – I really do. But then I have days like today when I was anything but sweet. No beautiful fragrance here! More like the stench of flesh!! I am so sorry, Lord. I ask your forgiveness – Your cleansing. You mean so much to me…I love You dearly. I want others to see Jesus in me. I want them to wonder what that sweet aroma is that is catching their attention. Make me more like You, Lord. Thank you for my righteousness. It is not because of who I am, but because of Who You are. Bless You, Father.
