“The Lord will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.

“And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; You shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you listen to the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them.

“So you shall not turn aside from any of the words which I command you this day to the right or the left, to go after other gods to serve them.”
(Deuteronomy 28:12-14)

Beloved, we are children of the Most High God – His special treasure, a royal priesthood, sanctified, redeemed and forgiven by the Blood of the Lamb! Breathe that knowledge in. Let it saturate your spirit with faith, with hope, with peace.

Because we are His children, our INHERITANCE is great, but it is contingent – conditional. This scripture uses the word, IF.

IF you listen to the commandments of the Lord your God, are careful to observe them and do not stray to the left or right to go after other gods…

IF you do these things:
The Lord will open the heavens to pour out rain on your land.
The Lord will bless all the work of your hands.
The Lord will make you the lender.
The Lord will make you the head and not the tail.
The Lord will make you be above only, not beneath.

Wow! IF…little word, big impact.

I know what you’re thinking and yes, you’re right. We are no longer bound by law. Our righteousness is found in Jesus. Praise His Name!

But the Lord still requires an obedient heart. He still expects adherence to His commandments, His instructions, His promptings. He expects our recognition of His authority.

Why do you suppose that is? God’s LOVE is unconditional. Nothing we do can earn it. His love is so great for us that we cannot fathom its depths. So, why does He make our inheritance conditional upon our obedience?

Well…I’ve been thinking. The more we are obedient, the more we are abiding in Him – living within His love, walking hand in hand. He becomes Lord, not just Savior. Our relationship blossoms, becomes accountable – no holds barred, so to speak.

And that is when we begin to learn the essence of Who God is. That is when we begin to understand, not only who we are in this world, but who we are to Him – His child.

Awesome. Obedience puts us in a position to REALLY know God and places our inheritance at our fingertips.

Breathe that knowledge in. Let it saturate you spirit with faith, with hope, with peace.

Father God, May we never forget that You are El Elyon, the Lord Most High. That knowledge carries with it accountability, but that accountability carries with it wonder and awe because we get to know You like never before. Thank You Lord. We praise You for Who You are. Open the eyes of our heart to understand the importance of obedience if we are to know You as Lord. You are wonderful, Lord. We love and appreciate You.
