I sat in the quiet darkness by the light of a candle. A warm glow — a sliver of glory — peeked over the mountain ridge. All else lay in the ebony of night that remained. I shifted my gaze northward where stars still twinkled and faraway galaxies gave a hint of purple majesty in the depths of the sky bursting with dawn.
The morning star outshone them all.
A Sliver of Glory Welcomed the Dawning of a New Day
There in the in-between of night and day, the morning star stood as a watchman — a reminder of our Father who remains in the dark and who also remains as the new day is born. Ever-present. All-knowing. Ever-faithful.
I was reminded of how big God is and how small I am.
I was reminded that even in the darkness, hope for tomorrow is revealed — a sliver of glory peeking through to remind us of the One who loves us. His presence brings peace to the weary soul.
My eyes moistened at the awareness of God’s faithfulness in our difficult places. When we seek Him we will always find Him. He will reveal Himself to us if we ask. I needed this reminder that morning. Heaviness of heart was weighing me down, creating restless thoughts.

But God.
I sat still before Him. And listened.
Nan, do you hear the morning stars singing? Can you hear them heralding the new day? As sure as the sunrise is My faithfulness to You. Your hope is found in Me and Me alone. I am Your Light in the darkness. Today is but a sliver of glory attesting to the glory to be revealed. Watch. Wait. Join the morning stars in praise and your darkness will begin to lift.
As I looked heavenward, the sliver of glory expanded and morphed into a masterpiece of splendor. Shades of apricot, coral, and lavender streamed across the morning sky as if dancing before the Lord. I bent my ear toward heaven and listened as the morning stars sang and the birds in the old apple tree joined the chorus.

“Praise to the Lord, the Almighty,
the King of creation!
O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy
health and salvation!
All ye who hear,
Now to His temple draw near;
Sing now in glad adoration!
“Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper
thy work and defend thee,
Who from the heavens the streams of
His mercy doth send thee.
Ponder anew
What the Almighty can do,
Who with His love doth befriend thee.”*
Safe and Secure in My Father’s Arms
I closed my eyes and listened. Praise filled my heart and peace settled upon me like my grandmother’s worn quilt. Safe and secure in the Father’s arms, I rested — tucked in His arms of love.

Sweet blessings to you,

Thank you Nan! I was encouraged this morning by your experience watching the dawn and listening for God’s Spirit to speak to your heart. I praise Him for His faithfulness and seek His presence. I’ve been reading Hinds Feet on High Places and am focusing on the messages of ‘Acceptance with Joy’ and ‘Bearing with Love’ in my challenges. Thank you and blessings!
Praise God! I’m so thankful you were encouraged. I love Hinds Feet on High Places and have read it several times over the years. That book taught me to look for joy in the wilderness because, surely, it will be found if we look for it. Thank you for your kind words.
