I'm learning to soar like an eagle

I’m learning to soar like an eagle

I’ve only seen an eagle in the wild once.

A stiff wind pushed across the mountain ridge — trees bowing in submission to its force. The day shone gloriously bright and there high above me, soaring against the periwinkle sky was an eagle. Its majesty took my breath away. My jaw dropped and I tilted my head backwards so I could watch this messenger from heaven glide on the wings of the wind.

As I watched him rise up toward the sun, I thought about how the Lord had given me similar wings to rise up close to Him, just as He promised:

Do you not know?
    Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
    the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
    and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
    and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
    and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
    they will run and not grow weary,
    they will walk and not be faint. ~ Isaiah 40:28-31, NIV

The Lord is teaching me to hope in Him — to wait on Him with an expectant heart, knowing that He knows the desires of my heart and the needs of my body.

He is teaching me to not be afraid nor deceived by the lies of the enemy that tell me I don’t have the strength to fulfill the calling on my life — for when I am weak, He is strong.

And just as the eagle soars upon the currents of the wind, I am learning to soar on the power of His breath that lifts me above adversity and carries me into His Presence.

In His Presence is fullness of joy.

In His Presence is healing rest.

In His Presence is perfect peace.

And in His Presence is where I want to be, walking with Him on the wings of the wind, soaring with the wings of an eagle …

Just like He promised.
