In the Wilderness You Teach Me Who You Are, Lord

O God, You are my God, early will I seek You. My soul thirsts for You, my flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land. Only You can satisfy the longing soul. Only You can search my heart and know my anxious thoughts … only You can give me perfect peace. In the wilderness place, You teach me who You are.

Never has Your love failed me. I have no need to fear the difficult places because You promise that Your presence will go with me and You will give me rest.

My Heart Longs for You, O Lord. Earnestly I Seek You

Father, I consider the works of Your hands and I am struck with wonder and awe. May I never take Your magnificence for granted or try to limit You through my own understanding. You are great, O Lord! There is no one else like You in heaven or on earth. My heart longs for You, it yearns to know Your mysteries and desires to rest in Your love without hesitation.

I’m astounded that, not only do You know my name, but You call me daughter. I don’t deserve Your steadfast love, and yet You lavish it upon me. I want to know You more, Lord. I want to respond to Your delicate whispers without hesitation … I want to honor You with my life.

Deep in Thought, Led by a Searching Heart … God?

I ambled along our country road. Slow. Sluggish. Deep in thought, led by a searching heart. My gaze landed on the mountaintop in the distance. Blue-purple ribbons of rolling hills surrounded the giant dome. Why are you troubled and weary, Nan? I asked myself. Why so downcast? Put your hope in God, Maker of heaven and earth.

I often lecture myself. I suppose King David did the same. Throughout the Psalms, his dialogue addresses the battle of spirit and flesh, faith and despair.

I’m Groping in the Dark God. Where is Your Hand?

Lord, You said, “Seek My face,” and I said, “Your face I will seek.” You promised if I seek You with all of my heart, I would find You. And I did. And You did. And I’m so thankful. But lately, it seems I’m groping in the dark, desperately reaching for Your hand.

I know You’re there — I have no doubt. But the trials have been intense and the darkness has tried to consume me. And fear … I am constantly fighting to keep fear at bay because I know You don’t want me to be afraid.

I’m Coming Lord … In a Little While. I Promise

Lord, I hear You calling my name. I hear You saying, “Come to Me.” But sadly, You often hear me say, “I’m coming Lord … but give me just a minute, okay? I need to finish this first.”

Oh, Lord, please forgive me. How in the world can I put You — the Creator of the Universe — on hold? And how many times have I done this without considering the impact of my choice?

Prayer When Groping in the Dark and Needing a Flashlight

Lord, You are my light and my salvation, my shield, the Rock upon which I stand. When I stand on the Rock with You, I get a glimpse of the plans You have for me, the hope of needed miracles for health and circumstances of my loved ones. And I am comforted.

But when I climb down from that Rock by my own accord, I find myself groping in the dark, unable to see a future of hope.
