He is the Alpha & Omega, But I’m Found in the Middle

Lord, I love the knowledge of Your sovereignty. I love the fact that You are the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. But I’m here in the middle, waiting, wondering … hoping for a heavenly response to my need.

Give me eyes to see, Lord. Give me tenacious faith to wait, perseverance to hope.

Set Me Apart, Lord … But Can It Wait Just a Bit?

Lord, I’m so thankful to be Your child. Your love is from everlasting to everlasting. Set me apart, Lord — You have called me to be holy as You are holy. You have called me to be in this world, not of this world. This can only happen by embracing sanctification.

But can it wait just a little bit longer? Sanctification is not easy. It requires me to die to self, to crucify the flesh. And that’s hard.

The Beginning and End I knew Not, But God …

I relaxed on the gentle slope alongside the river flowing through the mountain valley. Cupping my knees with my arms, I looked out across the liquid ribbon streaming in front of me — its beginning and end I knew not.

Its Creator, though, I know well.

Run the Race with Endurance You Say, but Mercy Goodness!

Lord, I know with You all things are possible. I know You are my strength consuming my weakness when I cry out to You. I also know You lead me in the ways I should go, expecting me to run the race with endurance.

But mercy goodness!

Sometimes that is very difficult. Some days I want to hide under a rock …

How to Wait on the Faithfulness of God

The earth lay silent, still covered in snow now frozen from last week’s storm. Darkness hovered, waiting on the morning light. I waited also … on the sunrise, but I was also learning how to wait on the faithfulness of God.

Sitting by the window, morning coffee in hand, I waited … anticipated … looked for the rising of the sun with its glorious shades of apricot and lavender.

I Need a Breakthrough Lord. Rescue Me From Sadness

Lord, the Christmas bells are still ringing, twinkling lights still dot the landscape. Sanctuaries still announce Your birth with red, gold, and silver raiment laced through the evergreens, and yet a spirit of heaviness weighs me and many others down. I need a breakthrough of joy, Lord. Rescue me from this sadness.

It has no rhyme or reason — this sadness. It just is. Perhaps it’s an accumulation of sadness — sorrow upon sorrow until now it is beginning to consume me.

Peace is a Gift Lord. Help Me Unwrap it in My Overwhelm

Lord, I sense Your presence, Your delicate whisper calling my name. I know that in Your presence is joy unspeakable. In Your presence is perfect peace. Peace is a gift, Lord. Your gift … but I’m overwhelmed.

Steady my heart to receive Your gift. Guide me to stillness away from the chaos where beneath the light of Your glory I might unwrap Your gift of peace and clasp it to my heart.

What is the Breath of God? Can I Experience It?

I walked along our country road wondering, thinking about, “What is the breath of God?” Ruach. Beside me fallen leaves rustled and swirled in a gentle breeze that escorted me on my path. I watched and listened, thankful for the cooling of the breeze, pondering the movement of the leaves that seemingly came alive, yet in reality were dead.

And yet the leaves danced in the wind — moved by the powerful breath of God.

Gethsemane: A Place of Excruciating Choice

After sharing the Passover meal, Jesus and His disciples walked the dusty roads of Jerusalem to the Mount of Olives, talking as they went — Jesus trying to prepare them for what was ahead.

They came to the Brook Kidron, hoisted their robes high above their ankles and crossed over to the Garden of Gethsemane — the garden of the olive press. Olive trees filled the orchard, their gnarled limbs weaving webs of grace and beauty.

It was a favorite place for Jesus to take His disciples.

The symbolism is great.

A Prayer When You Need Some Answers From God

Lord, You have called us Your sons and daughters. You have allowed us to call You Abba, Father — our Daddy God — when You adopted us into Your family. That in itself carries us across the abyss between earth and Your heavenly places.

That, in itself, allows us a personal audience of one with the Maker of heaven and earth.

That, in itself, is amazing, and I thank You for making a way for us to know You — not just about You, but know You intimately.

What a miracle, Lord!

A Name Beyond Comprehension

Jesus … Jesus … Jesus. There’s just something about that Name.

Master, Savior, Jesus … like the fragrance after the rain …

The words flowed easily from my lips as Blue and I trudged along the country road, faces to the wind. This powerful song has ministered to me in astounding ways over the years because of the simple Truth it holds.

There really is something about that Name.

And now, here’s the nugget of gold the Lord helped me dig up …
