Troubled and Weary? Live Within the Realm of God’s Love

My gaze landed on the mountaintop in the distance. Blue-purple ribbons of rolling hills surrounded the giant dome. Why are you troubled and weary, Nan? I asked myself. Why so downcast? Put your hope in God, Maker of heaven and earth.

I often lecture myself. I suppose King David did the same. Throughout the psalms his dialogue addresses the battle of spirit and flesh, faith and despair. Mountaintops reminded David of God, just like they do for me.

A Prayer When You Need to be Carried by Him Awhile

Bless You, O Lord, for You are the Almighty God, worthy of all praise. Your faithfulness is great, Your love beyond comprehension.

You go before me where there seems to be no way. You lead me in paths of righteousness for Your Name’s sake. I know You are my joy, my peace, my strength.

But some days I am just too tired to keep trudging through this … this wilderness.

Remembering the Essence of Grace

The quiet hush of the dawn distanced itself from the harsh winds of the storm. Sunlight filtered through the leaves — morning light sparkling like diamonds midst a setting of emeralds on the old juniper.

The storm had passed.

Peace had resumed.

God’s grace, beauty, and faithfulness surrounded me. Even though my spirit grew weary — I knew His love remained.

A Prayer to Release Praise in the Midst of Suffering

Lord, You are mighty to save, to deliver me from all my troubles. You hung the stars in place, You tell the ocean how far it can come — nothing is too hard for You; You do all things well.

And yet, my suffering remains.

And my heart hurts.

And my mind drives me crazy with restless thoughts.

Where are You, God, when everything falls apart?

A Prayer When Tenacity Runs Short And Giving Up Hovers

Lord, my righteousness is found in You — my hope, my peace. In Your Presence I find comfort and strength — I know I am not alone. It boggles the mind to think that the Creator of the Universe knows my name and searches my heart that He might know me.

This is beyond understanding, yet I know it to be true.

Sometimes just the touch of Your hand is all I need to know everything will be okay. I speak Your Name — Jesus … Jesus — and You come alongside me, taking my hand in Yours and leading me away from the treacherous path. You lift me and carry me over the turbulent waters. You hoist me onto the Rock high above the enemy’s tactics and keep me safe.

A Prayer When You’re Waiting for Help to Come

Lord, You promise to go before us. The light of Your Presence and the truth of Your Word are the lamp to our footsteps, leading us forward, even through the shadows of difficult places.

You are with us always. You never leave us. You never forsake us. Bless You, Lord!

You call us to come — to sit with You in Your dwelling place. When our stubborn self-sufficiency finally surrenders, we find You again — we hear Your delicate whisper bidding us to come.

When We Run Out, the Miracle Begins

When we run out, the miracle begins …

I heard that phrase in a sermon Sunday morning as I attended church in my pajamas and sipped on some hot coffee.

It was spoken in reference to John 2, the story of the wedding in Cana where Jesus turned water into wine … because the wine had run out.

Jesus was not taken by surprise. This need — this miracle — was meant to reveal the power and glory of Jesus.

A Prayer to Help You Find Jesus in the Crazy of Christmas

Lord, in Your infinite mercy You draw us to Yourself — You pursue us with Your love. Bless You, Lord! Thank You for Your faithfulness and Your mercies that are new every morning.

You are a great God.

We desire to know You more.

We desire to experience the fullness of who You are.

But it’s so crazy busy right now for everyone! We desire to be with You, but the demands are louder. The very One whose birth we celebrate becomes second place, pushed to a shelf or to the bottom of the to-do list.
