As I rest in You, Lord, renew my strength and joy

“O Lord, I have so many enemies;
    so many are against me.
So many are saying,
    ‘God will never rescue him!’

But You, O Lord, are a shield around me;
    You are my glory, the one who holds my head high.
I cried out to the Lord,
    and He answered me from His holy mountain.

I lay down and slept,
    yet I woke up in safety,
    for the Lord was watching over me.
I am not afraid of ten thousand enemies
    who surround me on every side.” ~ Psalm 3:1-6, NLT

“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
Will remain secure and rest in the shadow of the Almighty [whose power no enemy can withstand].
I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress,
My God, in whom I trust [with great confidence, and on whom I rely]!’” ~ Psalm 91:1-2, AMP

“Then Jesus said, “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you. Let Me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”~ Matthew 11:28-30, NLT

“For I have given rest to the weary and joy to the sorrowing.” ~ Jeremiah 31:25, NLT

I am found in You, Lord. Please Renew my Strength

I will bless You, O Lord. I will lift up my hands in worship, for You are the Great God, Maker of Heaven and Earth. Teach me to rest in You that You might renew my strength and joy. For You are my Creator, Almighty God, and my Abba Father. I am found in You … I am kept by You. And yet … yet so often I struggle.

I am found in You, Lord ... I am kept by You

Unlike King David, I don’t have physical enemies. No one is chasing after me to take my life. But I, indeed, have enemies — enemies of the soul: anxiety, overwhelm, illness, dwindling bank account. I’m battling some depression and extreme fatigue as my body fights to overcome a strange illness.

These are my enemies because they seek to rob me of my joy and strength. They seek to take my eyes off You and to bend me from the weight of it all.

Forgive me, Lord. Forgive me for my stubbornness and my leaning toward self-sufficiency. I am not strong enough to carry these burdens that come with life in a fallen world. You haven’t asked me to carry them … You ask me to give them to You, my Burden-bearer. You ask me to lay it all down and rest in You.

renew my strength, Lord, as I rest in You

You, O Lord, are a shield around me, You are my glory, the one who holds my head high. You have provided sweet rest for me, if only I will accept it … if only I will lay my burdens down, give You all of my responsibilities, and trust You to orchestrate my days, and direct my steps.

In You, Lord I will find my rest. Help me be still and know

Father, I believe that the one who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will remain secure and rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of You, Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust with great confidence.”

In You, I will find rest. Lead me beside the still waters that I might lie down in green pastures as You restore my soul.

In Jesus’s Name, I pray,

Amen ~ let it be so
