Take hope in the knowledge that you are cherished by the One who made you—you are sheltered in the shadow of His wing, close to His heart. It is my prayer that as we get to know one another you, too, will see beyond the veil and will learn to say, “Even so, I walk in the Presence of the Lord”
With joy,
Nan
My Soul Finds Shelter in You, Jesus. Draw Near
Lord, You shine forth Your light, and the darkness cannot overcome it. Your mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. Your righteousness is like the majestic mountains and Your judgments are a great deep — my soul finds shelter in You.
How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore I place my trust under the shadow of Your wings. Your steadfast, covenant love sustains me. You preserve me, Lord … You are the Keeper of my soul.
God Whispered to Me, “Look Up and Behold My Glory!”
Shadows laced together like interlocking fingers, carpeting the trail beneath my feet. Blue chicory mingled with fuchsia-painted sweet pea among the boulders, heralding my hike. A cool breeze rubbed against my neck stiff with tension, while God whispered for me to look up to the sky wrought with glory.
But I didn’t want to.
When I Let Go and Trust You Lord, You Lead Me Through
Lord, You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that I ask or think, according to the power of Your Spirit within me. Over and over again, I have experienced Your faithfulness and Your goodness to me. When I let go and choose to trust You, You always lead me through.
Especially when I’m overwhelmed or can’t see a way out … especially when I die to self-reliance and trust You alone, when I step out of the way, fully let go of control, and put my trust in You, You make a way. You make the crooked places straight.
I Will Not Fear. My Courage Comes From God
The porch swing rocked in peaceful rhythm. My spirit stirred as I looked up from my Bible, raising it to my breast and grasping the wonder of God that its pages contained. I had just read these words, “I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees You” (Job 42:5). Job had found God amid adversity. Job had found courage.
Keeper of My Soul, I Need You. Life is Hard
"The Lord Himself watches over you! The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night. "The Lord keeps you from all...
In the Stillness, We Remember and the Chaos Ceases
During my quiet time this morning, I was confronted with the need for stillness. I want to hear the voice of the Lord as I seek Him, but this requires that I be still, step away from busyness, and set aside distractions. The Scripture passage that inspired me was Ezekiel 1:24-25:
“When [the living creatures descending from before the throne] flew, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of many waters, like the voice of the Almighty, a tumult like the noise of an army; and when they stood still, they let down their wings. “A voice came from above the firmament that was over their heads; whenever they stood, they let down their wings.”
You Are My Song in the Night, but I Struggle to Trust
Great is Your love, Lord! You are my confidence. My strength. My song in the night. In the quiet is where I find You. It is where I know You — away from the noise, away from the distractions. I hear You call to me, and I come — I want to come — but I feel like I’m holding back.
Or something.
Bend Down, Lord. I Need to Hear Your Gentle Whisper
Lord, I hear You whisper to me, calling me out of the deep darkness of my thoughts — fearful thoughts, thoughts of uncertainty. Thank You for bending down to listen to my cry. And thank You for loving me enough to draw me into the embrace of Your Spirit, where I find comfort and rest.
You are my sure place in this crazy world — my anchor in the storm. You command the treacherous waves and perilous winds to cease, and they obey Your voice. I’m so grateful.
Hints of Grace Light the Day, Diffusing the Darkness
Out of the darkened chamber of night, the new day dawns. Ebony turns to shades of apricot and lavender, washing over the earth, reflecting God’s glory in the rivers, lakes, puddles, and dew drops — hints of grace light up the morning.
God’s glory cannot be halted — it will always be revealed, no matter the depth of night’s darkness. His light of morning grows and spreads and permeates the earth with the hope of a new day … no matter the deprivation of the soul.
