“You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;
You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness,
To the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent.
O Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever.” ~ Psalm 30:11-12, NKJV
“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon Me [the Messiah],
for the Lord has anointed Me
to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent Me to comfort the brokenhearted
and to proclaim that captives will be released
and prisoners will be freed.
He has sent Me to tell those who mourn
that the time of the Lord’s favor has come,
and with it, the day of God’s anger against their enemies.
To all who mourn in Israel,
He will give a crown of beauty for ashes,
a joyous blessing instead of mourning,
festive praise instead of despair.
In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks
that the Lord has planted for His own glory.” ~ Isaiah 61:1-3, NLT
“Weeping may last through the night,
but joy comes with the morning.” ~ Psalm 30:5, NLT
Fill my heart with praise, Lord, and turn my mourning into dancing
Father, You have taught me to say, “It is well with my soul,” regardless of what I am facing. Life is hard, but You are good. You are faithful and true. When I look to You, You turn my mourning, my sorrow, and my despair into joyful dancing before You. My heart becomes filled with praise — not because of my circumstances, but because of Your abiding presence.
Please forgive me for when I allow the difficult places to consume me, and I give them all my attention. I quickly become overwhelmed, submerged below the murky darkness they create. You have made a way for me to be free from the chains that bind me. You promise to give me beauty for my ashes, and praise instead of despair.
You are not a man that You should lie, but my sorrow is increasing. Will You turn my mourning into dancing for You? Will You cause my heart to overflow with so much praise that I can’t help but rejoice with abandon? You are my joy. You are my sure place in the storm. In Your presence is where I want to be.
Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning. Why? I think because Your mercies are new every morning. Your steadfast love greets us with the new day as Your glory fills the earth and You paint the sky with ribbons of lavender and apricot just to wow Your children.
You’re good like that, Lord.
Would You lift my chin so I might look up and behold You? When my eyes are on You, the difficult places lose their power over me. I’m counting on You. My heart is heavy-laden with worry and sorrow. But I know that because of Your love, my mourning will turn into joyful dancing.
You are faithful to turn my mourning into dancing
For You alone are worthy of all praise. You are my heart’s desire — the God of my salvation. Receive my offering of worship and praise.
In Jesus’s Name,
Amen ~ let it be so
