I'm afraid, Lord, but I don't want to be.

“But when I am afraid,
I will put my trust in You.
I praise God for what He has promised.
I trust in God, so why should I be afraid?
What can mere mortals do to me?” ~ Psalm 56:3-4, NLT

“Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy!
I look to You for protection.
I will hide beneath the shadow of Your wings
    until the danger passes by.
I cry out to God Most High,
to God who will fulfill His purpose for me.
He will send help from heaven to rescue me,
    disgracing those who hound me.
My God will send forth His unfailing love and faithfulness.” ~ Psalm 57:1-3, NLT

Whenever I’m Afraid, I Will Trust in You, Lord

Lord, many are the afflictions of the righteous, but You promise to deliver us out of them all. You promise to be our shelter in the storm, our refuge, our strong tower we can run into and be safe. Even so, I’m afraid Lord, but I don’t want to be.

Although I'm afraid, I know when I look to the Lord, everything will be okay.

Would You draw ever closer and remind me of who I am to You? Will You open my ears to hear Your delicate whisper affirming me, reassuring me that You are near, that I have nothing to fear because You are with me?

Nothing that is happening in the world today should surprise me — it certainly doesn’t surprise You.

You told us for generations that the depravity of man would take over, that evil would rear it’s ugly head. You also told us to be of good cheer, for You have overcome the world. You promised that You have given us peace — not as the world gives, but perfect peace that makes no sense.

Awaken me to Your peace once again.

Turn my eyes toward You, Lord so the things of earth will grow dim. Let Your light permeate the darkness, Your goodness overcome the evil one.

And although I’m afraid, I know when I look to You, courage will replace the fear. When I meditate on Your Word in the late watches of the night, peace will prevail in my heart. For You are mighty to save and You are in our midst. You rejoice over us with singing and You quiet us with Your love.

Your Word Sustains Me, Lord

Will You quiet me, Lord when I’m afraid? Will You surround me with songs of deliverance that shield and protect me and cause the enemy to flee?

Thank You, Lord, for Your Word is True and sustains me with its power. Thank You for You. I love You.

In the Name of Jesus, I pray,

Amen — let it be so
