I'm overwhelmed until I get a glimpse of You, Lord

“O God, listen to my cry!
    Hear my prayer!
From the ends of the earth,
I cry to You for help
    when my heart is overwhelmed.
Lead me to the towering rock of safety,
for You are my safe refuge,
a fortress where my enemies cannot reach me.” ~ Psalm 61:1-3, NLT

“Elijah was afraid and fled for his life. He went to Beersheba, a town in Judah, and he left his servant there. Then he went on alone into the wilderness, traveling all day. He sat down under a solitary broom tree and prayed that he might die. ‘I have had enough, Lord,’ he said. ‘Take my life, for I am no better than my ancestors who have already died.

Then he lay down and slept under the broom tree. But as he was sleeping, an angel touched him and told him, ‘Get up and eat!’ He looked around, and there beside his head was some bread baked on hot stones and a jar of water! So he ate and drank and lay down again. Then the angel of the Lord came again and touched him and said, ‘Get up and eat some more, or the journey ahead will be too much for you.

So he got up and ate and drank, and the food gave him enough strength to travel forty days and forty nights to Mount Sinai, the mountain of God. There he came to a cave, where he spent the night.” ~ 1 Kings 19:3-9, NLT

“We are pressured in every way [hedged in], but not crushed; perplexed [unsure of finding a way out], but not driven to despair; hunted down and persecuted, but not deserted [to stand alone]; struck down, but never destroyed; always carrying around in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the [resurrection] life of Jesus also may be shown in our body.” ~ 2 Corinthians 4:8-10, AMP

I Am Overwhelmed. Please Help Me, Lord

Lord, I need You. You are a very present help in times of trouble. You are my peace when I am overwhelmed. Your grace is enough because You are enough. Your love cannot be exhausted, for it is from everlasting to everlasting … You will love me forever.

I am overwhelmed. Please help me, Lord

Tears flow as I speak these words because I sense Your presence drawing near to strengthen me. Life in this fallen world is hard and growing harder by the day. I have been pressed on every side, pushed into financial corners, struck down by the enemy, and yet I rise because of You. Greater are You, Lord, in me than he that is in the world. You strengthen me to endure.

Because of You, I square my shoulders and press on.

I understand how Elijah felt. His faith didn’t waver — but he grew weary in the fight. He experienced the angst of being overwhelmed. I suppose he knew that he was in this world and not of it, and I suppose he understood the enemy that he, too, wrestled with. I can relate to Elijah … yep, I can relate.

I love how You did not condemn him for reaching the end of his rope. In Your goodness, You ministered to him, giving him sustenance to complete the journey, the assignment that came from Your hand. Your long-suffering was great, even for Elijah.

Thank You for Your long-suffering for me, Lord.

I'm overwhelmed until I get a glimpse of Yo

Some days, I feel like I’m sinking as I’m tossed to and fro, overwhelmed by intense difficulties. But then … then You give me a glimpse of Yourself walking across the stormy seas to get me into Your embrace.

You speak, and the waves settle down.

You speak and the storm ceases, slinking back into the shadows from which it came.

You are my Beloved, and I am Yours

Great are You, Lord, and greatly to be praised! From the depths of my heart, I give You praise. When I am overwhelmed, please receive my offering of worship and meet my gaze, giving me a glimpse of You. You are gentle, compassionate, and kind. You are my Beloved, and I am Yours.

In Jesus’s Name, I pray,

Amen ~ let it be so
