Lord, be a Balm of Gilead to my wounded soul

“My grief is beyond healing;
    my heart is broken.
Listen to the weeping of my people;
    it can be heard all across the land.
‘Has the Lord abandoned Jerusalem?’ the people ask.
    ‘Is her King no longer there?

“’Oh, why have they provoked my anger with their carved idols
    and their worthless foreign gods?’ says the Lord.

” I hurt with the hurt of my people.
    I mourn and am overcome with grief.
Is there no medicine in Gilead?
    Is there no physician there?
Why is there no healing
    for the wounds of my people? ~ Jeremiah 8:18-19, 21-22, NLT

The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
 ” ~ Psalm 23:1-3, NKJV

The Battle is Raging

Lord, I need Your Balm of Gilead. The arrows have been swift and hot lately. The battle between good and evil, righteousness and ungodliness is raging and I feel like I’m caught in the middle.

the Balm of Gilead restores me

But You, Lord, are a shield about me. When I stay in Your presence, I am protected. But when my stubbornness leads me astray, I step away from Your shelter.

And the flaming arrow hits its mark.

Cause Your Balm of Gilead to flow in and through me to heal my wounded soul. Soothe the pain, erase the confusion … calm the irritation and cause me to be still. And remember. Remember that You are God.

My wounds cry out to You. Will You make me whole again, Lord? Will You shine Your glorious light into my darkness so I might see Your beautiful face? Will You release Your Balm of Gilead to heal me?

Will You shine Your glorious light into my darkness?

When my eyes are on You and they glisten with tears, You draw near and dry them with Your love. You are so tender with me, so good, and so kind.

Thank You, Lord. Thank You for understanding my heart that longs for You, but often strays into the mirky shadows of withdrawal when the battle becomes too fierce.

The Balm of Gilead Restores Me

You are my strength. You are my peace. And You are the Balm of Gilead my wounded soul longs for.

Thank You for restoring me. I love You, Lord with all of my heart … I love You.

In the Name of Jesus, I pray,

Amen ~ let it be so
