God, You are in the midst of us. Open our eyes to see.

God is our refuge and strength,
    always ready to help in times of trouble.
So we will not fear when earthquakes come
    and the mountains crumble into the sea.
Let the oceans roar and foam.
    Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!
Selah

A river brings joy to the city of our God,
    the sacred home of the Most High.
God dwells in that city [He is in the midst of her]; it cannot be destroyed.
    From the very break of day, God will protect it.
The nations are in chaos,
    and their kingdoms crumble!
God’s voice thunders,
    and the earth melts!

The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us;
    the God of Israel is our fortress.
Selah

Come, see the glorious works of the Lord:
    See how He brings destruction upon the world.
He causes wars to end throughout the earth.
    He breaks the bow and snaps the spear;
    He burns the shields with fire.

“Be still, and know that I am God!
    I will be honored by every nation.
    I will be honored throughout the world.”

The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us;
    the God of Israel is our fortress. Selah” ~ Psalm 46

You Promise to be in the Midst of Us, Lord

Father, Your love has lifted me from the pit of miry clay. You have set me on high — safe and secure in Your arms, for You are a strong tower for me. In Your presence is where I want to be — I need to be. You are in the midst of us. We need only to open our eyes to see You. Teach us to look for Your fingerprints all about us.

Mighty are You, Lord, in the midst of me.

You have taught me to abide in You as You abide in me. You have taught me that it is in You that we live and move and have our being. So why am I anxious? Why am I alarmed by the fires, earthquakes, and floods? Why does the hatred and division trouble me so? Because it does. My heart aches over the vitriol between family and friends. It’s terrible.

And I believe it is otherworldly. We do not wrestle with flesh and blood but with principalities, powers, and rulers of darkness who seek to divide and conquer, who seek to steal, kill, and destroy us.

O Lord, You are a very present help in trouble … You are! Open our eyes to see You in our midst, to understand that You will never leave Your children to fend for themselves. You will never forsake us.

Open our eyes to see that You, Lord, are in our midst

I have placed my trust in You — You are my living hope. I have no need to fear. Even though I may walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me … Your rod and Your staff comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil … my cup runs over.

You are, indeed, in our midst, surrounding Your people as a shield. We need only to open the eyes of our hearts and look for the evidence of You drawing near. Call us to be still and remember that You are God. Insist that we step away from the busyness, cease our striving, and focus our attention on You.

You, Lord, are My Living Hope, For You Are in Our Midst

God, You are in our midst. I will rest in this knowledge and not allow my soul to be disturbed by this world. My eyes are on You, Lord. My mind is stayed on You and therefore I will have peace … perfect peace. You are my refuge and my strength.

In Jesus’s Name, I pray,

Amen ~ let it be so
