“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.” ~John 16:13,14
The Holy Spirit is so very important to us. I believe we have the understanding that at the moment of our salvation, we are filled with the Spirit of God, but what then? Does He just take up a secluded corner in our heart and hang a sign out that says, “This one belongs to Jesus”?
The Holy Spirit is the conduit for the power of God. He is the means by which Almighty God speaks to us, comforts us and guides us. The Holy Spirit reveals Jesus to us – He opens our eyes to see Him, to know Him, not just about Him. Listen to what Anne Graham Lotz (Billy Graham’s daughter) has to say about the Holy Spirit. This poem is found in her book, My Heart’s Cry: Longing for More of Jesus:
“Without the Holy Spirit to clarify the truth to our minds and confirm Who Jesus is in our hearts, we would “see” Jesus as just…
a man,
or a holy man,
or a prophet,
or a great prophet,
or a teacher,
or a revolutionary,
or a religious icon,
or a symbolic figure!
But the Holy Spirit opens our eyes to see and our minds to know and our hearts to receive that Jesus is more than just a man…or a prophet…or a teacher…or a revolutionary…or an icon…or a symbol. Jesus is…
the Messiah of Israel,
the Lamb of God,
the Son of David,
the Son of Man,
the Son of God,
the Savior of the world,
the Truth incarnate,
the risen Lord,
the reigning King…
God Himself in the flesh!”
Amen? Truth incarnate! The reigning King! God Himself…
SELAH. Pause and think about it.
Father, Open our eyes that we might see Who You are in Jesus and take hold of that amazing Truth. That is so hard for us to fathom. Give us understanding, Lord. We want to KNOW You, to take nothing for granted. You revealed Yourself to us through Jesus. We accept that Truth and can wrap our minds around it, but there is more, isn’t there? The Holy Spirit is like the looking glass that removes the veil to our heart so that we can see Your lovely face and recognize Who You are. Awaken in us an appreciation and recognition of the Holy Spirit. Help us understand that He is a PERSON of the Trinity, not just a great concept. Help us understand that the Holy Spirit is YOU. Now, that is wonderful. Thank You, Lord.
Amen, sister! Truth incarnate!
Yes! The reigning King! God Himself…
Another beautiful devotional, as usual. Love this one! Blessings, Barb
