“Therefore, put on the complete armor of God, so that you will be able to [successfully] resist and stand your ground in the evil day [of danger], and having done everything [that the crisis demands], to stand firm [in your place, fully prepared, immovable, victorious]. So stand firm and hold your ground, having tightened the wide band of truth (personal integrity, moral courage) around your waist and having put on the breastplate of righteousness (an upright heart), and having strapped on your feet the gospel of peace in preparation [to face the enemy with firm-footed stability and the readiness produced by the good news]. Above all, lift up the [protective] shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.” ~ Ephesians 6:13-17, AMP
“After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying,
“’Do not be afraid, Abram,
I am your shield;
Your reward [for obedience] shall be very great.’” ~ Genesis 15:1 AMP
You Are My Shield God
Lord, You are my light in the darkness, my song in the night. You are my shield God, but that flaming arrow that grazed me hurt.
I don’t know how it got past Your protection, but it did.
Oh wait …
I forgot to put on my armor today.
That means my shield of faith I’m supposed to lift high was left on the ground by my feet.
That means my helmet of salvation was dangling by my side — I was holding it, but it wasn’t where it belonged to guard my mind.
Okay, I hear You clearly Lord — my breastplate of righteousness couldn’t guard my heart if I didn’t put it on, and I allowed myself to be weakened by not girding myself with Your Truth, making myself an easy target for the lies of the enemy.
Thank You for showing me how foolish I’ve been! You did Your part — You ARE my shield. The arrow hurt, but didn’t/couldn’t take me out. But if I had taken time to put on my armor, it couldn’t have touched me.
Forgive me for making myself susceptible to the wiles of the enemy.
Forgive me for approaching this day in my own strength when you clearly instruct me to put on Your full armor so I may stand strong in the daily battle against the evil one.
Had I lifted my shield of faith, that flaming arrow would have been quenched, rendering it harmless. Forgive me, Lord, for being so careless.
I’m so blessed to be Your child. You are faithful. You are my shield God — my fortress, my refuge. I am safe in Your care.
You’ve taught me a lesson. I cannot be complacent regarding my armor — none of Your children can. We are in evil days ripe with deception. But You have provided a way to keep us strong in the battle — Your armor.
You Are My Shield God, Therefore With My Song I Will Praise You
Make me brave, Lord. Give me tenacious faith and dogged determination to stand strong in Your Name, following Your instructions. I have placed my trust in You, and I am helped, therefore with my song I will praise You.
Bless Your holy Name!
In the Name of Jesus I pray,
Amen
