Capture my restless thoughts, Lord. Renew my mind.

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.” ~ Romans 12:2, NIV

“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” ~ 2 Corinthians 10:5, NIV

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” ~ 2 Timothy 1:7, NKJV

I Know What to Do, But Goodness Gracious!

Father, You have taught me to fix my eyes on You, and not my circumstances. You’ve taught me to renew my mind by thinking on those things that are lovely and pure, those things worthy of praise instead of filling my mind with the world’s influence. I know what to do to escape sin’s temptation, but goodness gracious — some days are hard.

If I don’t hold my emotions by the reins, my thoughts easily run wild. They entertain fear and anxiety. They entertain frustration and uncertainties — thoughts not of You. And I find myself tumbling into a pit of miry clay that keeps me bound.

Renew my mind, Lord, through the reading of Your word.

You promise to transform me, Lord. But I must be willing to be sanctified, to be molded by the Potter’s hand. As You renew my mind I will learn Your good, pleasing, and perfect will for my life. As I study and learn Your Word, transformation takes place. As I go farther and hide it in my heart, my thinking is renewed, I become firmly planted and cannot easily be persuaded.

Your ways are always better. Forgive me when I play into the enemy’s hand or satisfy my flesh rather than yielding to Your gentle nudge.

Renew My Mind So I Might be Holy as You are Holy

My desire is to be holy as You are holy — not perfect by any means — but to have a purifed heart so I can dwell deeply with You. Renew my mind so my heart might be closer to holiness … so I might abide in the shadow of Your wing.

In the Name of Jesus, I pray,

Amen ~ let it be so
