Listen to the melody of the babbling brook. It sings of endurance, tenacity, strength, and peace.

Listen to the melody of the babbling brook. It sings of endurance, tenacity, strength, and peace.

In the shade of an old chestnut tree the brook babbled with a soulful melody. Cascading across mountain stones, notes of endurance sang out a song of peace. The water seemed alive with perseverance and strength — tenacity — as it carried a timeless breath of life across the mountain hollar.

I thought of the Lord as I sat on the carpet of moss along the brook’s edge.

I thought of His Living Water that flows within us, satisfying our soulful thirst that only the Lord can quench.

I thought of His Water’s enduring song of peace that rings out as it flows over and under the stones that collect in my heart from life in a fallen world, making a beautiful song from the hard and difficult places.

That’s a wonderful thought, isn’t it?

It’s also a promise of our God.

Consider these words of promise:

“He who believes in Me [who adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Me], as the Scripture has said, ‘From his innermost being will flow continually rivers of living water.’” ~ John 7:38, AMP

“And the Lord will continually guide you,
And satisfy your soul in scorched and dry places,
And give strength to your bones;
And you will be like a watered garden,
And like a spring of water whose waters do not fail.” ~ Isaiah 58:11, AMP

The word that stands out to me in these passages of Scripture is “will”:

“… From his innermost being WILL flow rivers of living water continually …”

“… The Lord WILL continually guide you …”

“… You WILL be like a watered garden …”

Not might be, but WILL.

Our God is not a man that He should lie. What He says He will do, He will do.

And just as the babbling brook flows endlessly from its source, so the Living Water flows through us from the Spirit of God — a reflection of endurance, peace, tenacity, and strength.

The melody of peace trickling across the mountain stone resonated deep within me, calling my name, drawing me to the One who loves me.  With His strength I will endure the trials.

With His peace my life will echo His beautiful song — not because of me, but because of His abiding Presence and life-flow of Living Water that will never go dry.

Bless the Name of the Lord.
