Fires, earthquakes, floods ... be merciful, O God

“You will continually hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end [of the age]. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs [of the intolerable anguish and the time of unprecedented trouble].” ~ Matthew 24:6-8, AMP

“They will abandon Me and break My covenant that I have made with them. Then My anger will blaze forth against them. I will abandon them, hiding My face from them, and they will be devoured. Terrible trouble will come down on them, and on that day they will say, ‘These disasters have come down on us because God is no longer among us!’ At that time I will hide My face from them on account of all the evil they commit by worshiping other gods.” ~ Deuteronomy 31:16-18, NLT

“I am the Lord, and there is no other;
There is no God besides Me.
I will gird you, though you have not known Me,
That they may know from the rising of the sun to its setting
That there is none besides Me.
I am the Lord, and there is no other;
I form the light and create darkness,
I make peace and create calamity;
I, the Lord, do all these things.’” ~ Isaiah 45:5-7, NKJV

Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” ~ Deuteronomy 31:8, NLT

You are merciful and kind, faithful and true, Lord

Father, I know You are trustworthy and worthy of all praise. I know You are sovereign … You are merciful and kind, faithful and true. You are who You say You are — I know because I know You and I have walked with You for over fifty years. That’s a long time to know Someone.

I know you are merciful and kind, Lord, because I know YOU!

However, I must say, that even though I am secure in Your love, world events are unsettling, especially the natural disasters. Floods, fires, earthquakes … they have been anything but natural. They are epic. And I believe they have spiritual roots.

I don’t want to be afraid. I want to dwell in Your secret place beneath the shadow of Your wings. I want to abide in You, near to Your heart. I am safe there.

Be merciful, O God!

You are a holy God. We cannot fathom what this truly means while on this side of heaven, but I do know that, because of Your holiness, You cannot turn a blind eye to blatant sin. You are Almighty God, and You will not be mocked.

be merciful O God and remember the remnant who seek hard after You.

I’ve learned that much of what happens in the physical world is a manifestation of the battles occurring in the heavenly places. Thank You for fighting for righteousness on our behalf. Thank You for warring against the evil one, for smiting our enemies, for giving it all for us and our salvation.

Be Merciful, O God! I don’t want to be afraid

We eagerly await Your return, but I’m reminded that Your timing is not like that on Earth. A day is as a thousand years to You. But clearly, the day of Your returning is approaching. Strengthen us to endure. Be merciful in Your judgment, searching the hearts and minds of those who call You Lord.

Yes, Lord … be merciful. Remember Your remnant who seek hard after You.

In Jesus’s Name I pray,

Amen ~ let it be so
