Take hope in the knowledge that you are cherished by the One who made you—you are sheltered in the shadow of His wing, close to His heart. It is my prayer that as we get to know one another you, too, will see beyond the veil and will learn to say, “Even so, I walk in the Presence of the Lord”
With joy,
Nan
A Whisper in the Darkness Becomes a Song
Like a song drifting through the darkness of night, His voice, a whisper, called to me, Come to Me, Nan. Come to Me. Gentle. Persuasive — a voice overflowing with a love that softens the rough edges of difficult places …
… a love that soothes and comforts, restores and renews.
Come to Me, and I will give you rest.
A Prayer When You Want to Sing, But Praise Can’t be Found
O Lord, You alone are worthy of my praise. I desire to sing Your praise always. You are the One True God, the Maker of heaven and earth. You know the number of hairs on my head; You know my anxious thoughts.
And You care — You care about everything that concerns me. I’m thankful for that. Really, I am.
When I Taste the Goodness of God, I Shall Not Want
The sun rises outside my window dispelling the darkness of night, awakening the songbirds living in our ancient juniper. I thought about the goodness of God — His goodness regardless of my circumstances, and turned the pages of my Bible to Hebrews:
“He has said, ‘I will never leave you, nor forsake you.’ So that we may boldly say, ‘The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear. What can man do to me?'” ~ Hebrews 13:5-6
A Prayer to Cling to God When Life is Messy
Lord, what would I do without You? When everything around me falls apart, You are steadfast. When fear slinks out of the darkness to taunt me, You give me courage and remind me that You are with me.
When despair consumes me and anxiety grips me, You are my Peace — not as the world gives, but perfect peace found only in You.
Life has taken some crazy, painful turns lately — most of them I don’t even understand and one-hundred percent of them I don’t like …
Bolstered by the Wind of God’s Spirit
The periwinkle blue of a late spring sky created a canopy of reassurance above me as I walked along our country road. The intense blue bathed me in thoughts of God’s Spirit, causing me to consider the One True God, Maker of heaven and earth.
I thought of God’s dwelling place — His throne of grace high above me in the heavenly places. I listened to His Holy Spirit within me offering comfort and resolution to pass through these troubled waters.
God’s promises rang out through my weary spirit.
A Prayer When Your Restless Heart Needs to be Settled
Lord, many are the afflictions of the righteous, but You have promised to deliver us out of them all. Thank You, Father.
I depend upon Your promises. You are not a man that You should lie.
Only You can settle my restless heart.
No Matter the Depth of Night’s Darkness, He is There
Out of the darkened chamber of night, the new day dawns. Ebony turns to shades of apricot and lavender, washing over the earth, reflecting God’s glory in the rivers, lakes, puddles, dew drops — shades of grace light up the morning.
God’s glory cannot be halted — it will always be revealed, no matter the depth of night’s darkness.
His light of morning grows and spreads and permeates the earth with the hope of a new day …
No matter the deprivation of the soul.
A Prayer When You’re Searching For a Rainbow in Your Clouds
Lord, You are good. so good. This I know and this I press into when life comes at me hard. I am in covenant with You, therefore nothing comes my way without Your knowledge.
My hope is in You alone. You truly are my anchor on this wave-tossed sea.
This knowledge of Your Truth is my rainbow of promise that I belong to You.
A Tribute to Our Beautiful Blue Boy
Sunday morning we said goodbye to our beloved Blue. It was sudden. No warnings. He collapsed and a subsequent exploratory surgery with an emergency vet revealed massive amounts of cancer
Blue had shown no signs of illness — aging, yes. Slowing down a bit as his muzzle grayed … yes. But he was happy, eating, thrilled by his daily walks … until he collapsed.
