The sapphire blue of a late spring sky created a canopy above me as I walked along our country road. The intensity of color bathed me in thoughts of God’s Spirit, causing me to consider the One True God, Maker of heaven and earth. I desperately wanted to know how to find God’s reassurance.
I thought of His dwelling place — His throne of grace high above me in the heavenly places. I listened to His Holy Spirit within me offering comfort and resolution to pass through these troubled waters.
In Difficulty, Remember God’s Promises
God’s promises rang out through my weary spirit:
I am for you, not against you. I have redeemed you; you are Mine.
I am near to the brokenhearted and those crushed in spirit.
Reach out your hand and I will lift you high above your enemies.
I will be with you when you pass through the waters, and through the rivers, you will not drown.
I know He is with me in this difficult place … yet there are days I can barely keep my head above the water. Do you experience this too? Do you want to know how to find God’s reassurance? I’m sure you do. Life in a fallen world is hard. Questioning, doubting, and unnecessary fear is part of the human condition.
But shouldn’t it make a difference if we believe the Word of God?
Yes! Of course, it should.
And it does.
When we choose to take our eyes off our circumstances, look full into His wonderful face and ponder the Father’s heart, our resolve to endure the fiery trial is strengthened.
God’s Spirit ministers to us in our difficult places.
How Do We Find God’s Reassurance? Look for Him in the Difficult Place
In her Bible Study, Armor of God, Priscilla Shirer said this, “A firm confidence in God’s promises gives you not only a holy courage but also the spiritual muscle to carry out whatever He calls you to do. So even when facing a challenge, you still feel the full weight and wind of God’s Spirit reverberating behind you.” *
As I rounded the curve past the meadow, the wind kicked up with lengthy, strong gusts coming from the rear. The sun beat down on me, its brilliance illuminating the blue of the sky, its warmth drawing my thoughts heavenward.
I smiled, knowing God was giving me a wink.
He’s got me. He’s got you … if we have set our hearts toward Him and call out to Him in the midst of our struggles. He is a faithful God.
How do we find God’s reassurance? By looking for Him in the difficult places. He is omnipresent — all-present in every moment. Seek Him with all your heart and you will find Him. He promised.
I looked toward the heavens once more, the sapphire sky glowing in the sun. The wind of God’s Spirit ushered me home and He quieted me with His love.
Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised!
