I found church in the middle of a country road.

I passed beneath the pine canopy just before the clearing up ahead. Stepping into the open space, the sky beckoned me to look up. Right there in the middle of a country road, sunshine kissed my face and brought a smile to my weary soul.

Heavy thoughts weighed me down. Too many unanswered questions. An onslaught of flaming arrows seemed to be targeting me left and right … life had been hard. But then I considered the sky again, enthralled by its draping in crystal blue velvet, mesmerized by its vastness.

I Considered the Goodness of God, His Faithfulness

A gentle breeze cooled my face.

Whom have I in heaven but You, Lord? There is none on earth that I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart may fail, but You are the strength of my heart, and my portion forever.

I stopped walking and considered the goodness of God. I thought of His faithfulness to me, remembering His gentle watchcare over my life. The heaviness in my heart began to lift, and I raised my hands in worship.

Right there in the middle of a country road.

Heaven met earth and I responded, right there in the middle of a country road.

A flock of sparrows perched in the old maple beside the white clapboard church. They began to chatter and serenade me in response to my voice singing praise to the Lord. The ordinary became extraordinary in the holiness that descended as heaven met earth, and my heart responded.

Right there in the middle of a country road.

An ordinary day with a bit of heartache became extraordinary because the Lord met me in my difficult place. He descended from on high and lifted my burdens. In my heart of hearts, I knew He was with me. I remembered He is for me, and His grace is enough for anything I may face.

Right in the Middle of a Country Road Heaven Came to Earth

Purple lilacs growing on the corner of the church filled the air with a sweet aroma carried on the breeze. A song rose in my spirit, O how sweet to trust in Jesus, just to take Him at His word. Just to rest upon His promise, just to know, thus saith the Lord …

I turned to head home. The breeze behind me and the sun before me put a spring in my step. The Lord knew I needed church today right there in the middle of a country road.
