I rounded the curve where the small brick church sits in a grove of trees. The mountain range lay before me with shadows of blue peeking above the veil of fog blanketing the morning.
Golden yarrow poked through the split-rail fence defining the meadow where tall grass swayed in the gentle breeze. Birdsong came from the forest just over the hill. Walking along, I thought about the Lord — heavy thoughts … burdened thoughts that desperately needed His peace.
Like a Bridal Veil, a Veil of Fog Obscured the Beauty of the Mountains
His peace was at my fingertips. This I know. It’s always available.
But some days it seems elusive, hard to find … just out of reach.
I set my gaze on the fog. Like a bridal veil, it obscured the beauty of the mountains hidden beneath its lacy fingertips. Obscured. But not removed.
Perhaps God’s peace is like that. Our restless thoughts obscure the beauty His peace holds for us — its calm, soothing comfort in the difficult places — its declaration of the hope we have in Jesus. We so desire His peace, but we can’t find it, see it, or experience its healing balm because the painful circumstances are consuming us.

It’s as though the hope we have anchored in Jesus with its resulting peace has escaped us … if only for a few moments.
Yet … it feels like a lifetime.
We must learn to follow God’s instructions: be anxious for nothing, but in everything give thanks; think on those things worthy of praise; keep our focus on Him remembering He is God and He loves us with an everlasting love … then the peace of God will rule our hearts.
The Veil of Fog Will Lift When We Focus on the Lord
And hope will arise and become our sure place once again.
“This hope [this confident assurance] we have as an anchor of the soul [it cannot slip and it cannot break down under whatever pressure bears upon it]—a safe and steadfast hope that enters within the veil [of the heavenly temple, that most Holy Place in which the very presence of God dwells],” ~ Hebrews 6:19, AMP

As the sun completed its ascent high above the mountains and warmed the earth, the veil of fog lifted. There in all their glory were the mountains I call home unfurling as far as the eye could see.
I suppose God’s peace is like that, especially when it’s born of blessed hope for whatever troubles our soul. Though seemingly just out of reach at times, His peace is steadfast and ever-present. Enter the Presence of God, push aside the veil of fog that dares obscure Him and dares to torment you with anxious thoughts.
God’s Peace is Steadfast and Sure
Seek Him and He will be found by you.
And once you find Him, His peace like a river will flow freely over and through the difficult places. You will know that you know, you are loved with incomprehensible love that has no end.
