“Elijah said to Ahab, ‘Up on your feet! Eat and drink—celebrate! Rain is on the way; I hear it coming.’ … Meanwhile, Elijah climbed to the top of Carmel, bowed deeply in prayer, his face between his knees. Then he said to his young servant, ‘On your feet now! Look toward the sea.’ He went, looked, and reported back, ‘I don’t see a thing.’
“‘Keep looking,’ said Elijah, ‘seven times if necessary.’ And sure enough, the seventh time he said, ‘Oh yes, a cloud! But very small, no bigger than someone’s hand, rising out of the sea.’ ‘Quickly then, on your way. Tell Ahab, “Saddle up and get down from the mountain before the rain stops you.’”
“Things happened fast. The sky grew black with wind-driven clouds, and then a huge cloudburst of rain, with Ahab hightailing it in his chariot for Jezreel. And God strengthened Elijah mightily.” 1 Kings 18:41-45, MSG
Send Your Cloud, Lord
Lord, You are more precious than gold. Your goodness is beyond measure. Your faithfulness reaches to the heavens, surpassing the stars You hung in place.
You are Almighty God.
And You are good.
I know this.
I can trust that You are good and faithful, but still the dry seasons come — those times when I grow complacent about the things of God, those times I don’t hunger and thirst after Your Word.
Those time I don’t seek You first.
I need a fresh touch of Your Holy Spirit, Lord.
I ask You to send Your cloud and rain down Your grace on me. Let Your Living Water flow freely and quench my thirst. I know You hear me when I cry out to You. I know You are aware of this desert place — You have led me here.
You have held me by my right hand and led me into this wilderness where skies are clear, with no cloud to rain down Your grace, where days are bleak, where there seems to be no end to the difficulty.
But You are with me, I am not alone.
I bow before You, Lord, crying out for Your mercy, looking to the heavens, waiting for a cloud. A mist. A downpour of grace.
Rain down on me, Lord.
Quench my thirst.
Stir within me a fresh awareness of Your presence, Your eternal purposes …Your love.
A Cloud! I Hear the Abundance of Rain
Like Elijah, I want to hear the abundance of rain even before I see it. I want to walk with expectation that the cloud harboring Your rain of grace is on the horizon in direct response to my prayer.
So I’m looking, Lord … I’m looking for my cloud. For as sure as the sunrise, it will come to refresh my weary soul and replenish my strength.
Thank You, Lord. Thank You for hearing me when I cry out to You. Forgive me for my complacency and negligence in our relationship. For You, Lord, and You only, satisfy a longing soul.
Let it rain, dear Lord. Let it rain. My mouth is open wide to receive Your refreshment, and my arms are wide open to worship You, my God.
In Jesus Name, I pray,
Amen
