A Prayer of Advent
“[Because of His wondrous love] the beloved of the Lord shall dwell in safety by Him, who shelters him all the day long, and he shall dwell between His shoulders.” ~ Deuteronomy 32:12
Lord, Your wondrous love — how can I understand its depth, its all-encompassing reality? Your love is beyond human comprehension and knows no bounds. Oh! How great is Your love!
What Wondrous Love is This?
Even when we don’t deserve it.
Even when we fall short, when we don’t seek You first, or when our hearts are ugly with selfishness or unthankfulness.
Even then, Your wondrous love remains. Thank You, Lord.
What have I done to deserve Your love?
Everything I’m not, You are. Everything I need, You provide. You freely give. You freely love … with a pure, unconditional love.
Help me remember this, Lord. Help me walk in the awareness of Your wondrous love. Help me grasp the beauty of thought that I am held between Your shoulders — in Your heart.
Wow! You hold me in Your heart.
You pursue me with Your love over and under and through every situation I find myself in. You never give up. You search until You find me and then You hold me close and whisper that I am Yours and I am safe in Your arms.
Bless You, Father.
I remember these truths this Christmas.
I choose to seek You first, to find You in the twinkling lights and the melody of a carole. I will look for You and find You in the smiles and kindnesses extended across our land. I will see Your reflection in the tears of the brokenhearted as You draw them close.
I will listen for Your whispers of wondrous love above the din of Christmas hustle and bustle.
We Are Loved by An Amazing God
And I will remember that You are Immanuel, God with us. And in the remembering, I will find myself overwhelmed by Your remarkable love that tells me I belong to You.
Thank You for never giving up on me. Thank You for loving me always, especially in spite of myself. Thank You for Your faithfulness to me, Your child.
