when hope rode upon the sunbeams of winter

The sun came out this morning, its golden beams streaking across the barren branches of winter. The contrast was stunning. The hope that rode upon the sunbeams, promising.

The winter has been long and hard — brutal at times. Its oyster-gray sky has lingered like a permanent fixture with its dull and hazy light.

I’m Dangling … But Still Hanging On

Much like my heart of late.

I’ve struggled.

Yes, I’m clinging to Jesus, but the wear and tear of this old world has given me a beating. It’s as if I can relate to the broken, dangling trees in our forest, remnants of Hurricane Helene’s destruction and the added pounding of two consecutive ice storms. I’m dangling …

But still hanging on.

Waiting for spring, for the hope of a better tomorrow.

As I studied the sunbeams and thought about the goodness of the Lord, I noticed the sunlight dappling in the shadows. Hope is like that. It appears in the darkness, moving about, touching a heart here, settling a soul there. But, like the dappled light, hope’s source is sure and unwavering.

The Lord, Himself, is my living hope.

“Your mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens;
Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
Your righteousness is like the great mountains;
Your judgments are a great deep;
O Lord, You preserve man and beast.

How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God!
Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings.
They are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of Your house,
And You give them drink from the river of Your pleasures.
For with You is the fountain of life;
In Your light we see light.” ~ Psalm 36:5-9

“In YOUR light we see light … “

In Your light we find hope moving in and among our hurting hearts.

In the light of Your presence, You quiet us with Your love.

In Your light we find hope moving in a d among our hurting hearts.

Hope is Like Dappled Light, if I Have Eyes to See

As the sun broke through the morning fog, the earth became engulfed in its brightness. Gone were the somber shades of winter as even barren branches revealed their beautiful detail in the morning light. There may not be any leaves … yet … but life could be seen oozing from the textured bark on branches stretching toward heaven.

If I have eyes to see.
