God's Spirit ministers to us in our difficult places.
God’s Spirit ministers to us in our difficult places.

The periwinkle blue of a late spring sky created a canopy of reassurance above me as I walked along our country road. The intense blue bathed me in thoughts of God’s Spirit, causing me to consider the One True God, Maker of heaven and earth.

I thought of God’s dwelling place — His throne of grace high above me in the heavenly places. I listened to His Holy Spirit within me offering comfort and resolution to pass through these troubled waters.

God’s promises rang out through my weary spirit:

God's Spirit is with me in these troubled waters.
God’s Spirit is with me in these troubled waters.

I am for you, not against you. I have redeemed you, you are Mine.

I am near to the brokenhearted and those crushed in spirit.

Reach out your hand and I will lift you high above your enemy.

I will be with you when you pass through the waters, and through the rivers, you will not drown.

I know He is with me in these troubled waters … but yet, there are days I can barely keep my head above the water.

I bet you have days like that, too.

But shouldn’t it make a difference if we believe the Word of God?

Yes! Of course it should.

And it does.

When we choose to take our eyes off our circumstances, look square into His lovely face and ponder the Father’s heart, our resolve to endure the fiery trial is strengthened.

God’s Spirit ministers to our difficult places.

In her Bible Study, Armor of God, Priscilla Shirer said this, “A firm confidence in God’s promises gives you not only a holy courage, but also the spiritual muscle to carry out whatever He calls you to do. So even when facing a challenge, you still feel the full weight and wind of God’s Spirit reverberating behind you.”*

The wind of God's Spirit ushered me home and He quieted me with His love.

As I rounded the curve past the meadow, the wind kicked up with lengthy, strong gusts coming from the rear. The sun beat down on me, its brilliance illuminating the periwinkle sky, its warmth drawing my thoughts heavenward.

I smiled, knowing God was giving me a wink.

He’s got me. He’s got you … if you have set your heart towards Him and called out to HIm in the midst of Your struggles. He is a faithful God.

The wind of God’s Spirit ushered me home and He quieted me with His love.

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised!
