When the days are long and the nights are longer still, He is our hiding place.

When the days are long and the nights are longer still, He is our hiding place.

The days had been long. The nights even longer. Deep in my spirit I heard His delicate whisper calling me to come, to be still and remember that He is God.

My heart longed for peace.

My body, weary from a fibromyalgia flare, yearned for strength and energy.

I sat beneath the soft lamplight in the stillness of morning, my Bible in hand.  Flipping through its worn pages I found myself drawn to the Psalms. Oh my goodness! What comfort we find in these words of David — his authentic faith wrought with fiery trials, yet proclaiming the faithful promises of God.

The Lord quickened to me a simple song from years earlier: Psalm 32:7.

“You are my hiding place;

You shall preserve me from trouble;

You shall surround me with songs of deliverance.

In times I am afraid, I will trust in You.”

Over and over again I sang these simple, yet powerful words, soaking in their truth.

He IS my hiding place.

He WILL preserve me from trouble.

He WILL surround me with songs of deliverance.

Surround me …

“For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield.” ~ Psalm 5:12

“But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory and the One who lifts up my head. I cried to the Lord with my voice, and He heard me from His holy hill.” ~ Psalm 3:3-4

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped …” ~ Psalm 28:7

Have you had several long days and even longer nights filled with worry or anxiety or restlessness? Take heart! What the Lord has spoken, He will do.

Whatever trouble we’re facing, He is surrounding it — He is above it.

What He has begun — what He has purposed — He will complete. His Word is settled in heaven.

His love won’t let us go.

No, His love won’t let us go … especially in the long days and nights when we need Him most of all.
