Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning … just as He said.

Unless the Lord had given me help,
I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death.
When I said, “My foot is slipping,”
your unfailing love, Lord, supported me.
When anxiety was great within me,
your consolation brought me joy. ! Psalm 94:17-19, NIV

Lord, You have shown Your love to me — Your grace, Your mercy. You have given me glimpses of who You are, especially during the difficult places.

You are powerful. You are Almighty God — the Sovereign Lord. You are El Shaddai, the All-sufficient One who nurtures and comforts me.

Even so, sorrow overwhelms me, Lord. Not everyday, but most days.

You are the Rock on which I stand.

I know You are my strength, and I depend on that knowledge. I know I find my joy in You — in Your Presence, in Your embrace.

You are the Rock on which I stand.

But still, some days sorrow overwhelms me and I struggle to wait for the joy that will surely come.

Sustain me on these dark days, for I know weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.

I believe this, Lord, because You said it.

Joy comes in the morning if we will trust Him.

But it’s so hard to wait for this sorrowful season to end.

Be my song in the night. Help me focus on You and the returning joy rather than the brokenness and grief that is ever-present, lurking in the shadows.

I choose to seek You, Lord, because You promise when I seek You, I will find You and when I draw near to You, You will draw near to me.

I choose to move towards You, to step away from the grip of sorrow into Your marvelous light, for when I am in Your Presence my fear of the unknown is alleviated.

When I am in Your Presence, my healing comes.

In Your Presence I find peace.

Lord, my spirit is willing, but my flesh is weak. I need Your help, Lord. Grant me endurance and fortitude as I linger in this depressed state.

I wait expectantly for Your joy that will surely come.

Thank You for hearing the cries of my heart.

In Jesus’ Name I pray,

Amen
