God has given me the oil of joy for the spirit of heaviness.

He has anointed Me “to console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.” ~ Isaiah 61:3, NKJV

“When you obey My commandments, you remain in My love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in His love. I have told you these things so that you will be filled with My joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!” ~ John 15:10-11, NLT

” … Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” ~ Nehemiah 8:10, NKJV

Oh How I Need the Oil of Joy!

Lord, You are my strength, my hope, my joy. This I know and this I believe. Yet a spirit of heaviness has taken hold — I haven’t been able to release its grip. Would You anoint me with the oil of joy, and help me put on a garment of praise?

The trials have been fierce lately — relentless. Suffocating. But I know You are with me. I know that in Your presence is fullness of joy.

God has given me the oil of joy for the spirit of heaviness.

Why can’t I access it?

Or have I and just don’t realize it? Maybe I’m listening to the lies of the enemy that batter me from dawn to dusk. Maybe my eyes are on my sorrows, and not on You.

Forgive me, Lord. In You I have all that I need — peace, contentment, joy. You satisfy the longing soul. You, alone are worthy of all praise.

I love that You describe Your gift as the OIL of joy. I can close my eyes and see You drawing near to me. In Your hand is a flask of oil. You touch my head, look into my eyes, and begin to pour out the liquid gold. The oil flows from the top of my head to the bottom of my feet. You anoint my head with oil and my cup runneth over.

Glory! I can see it. I receive the oil of joy for my spirit of heaviness. Shall I not be glad? Shall I not walk in Your gift of joy that resides deep in my heart?

The Joy of the Lord is My Strength

Joy is there because Holy Spirit is there. Gladness of heart is mine, even when life is hard and filled with difficult places. Your joy remains.

I WILL rejoice in You always. I will be glad in each day You have given me, for the joy of my Lord is my strength. Blessed be the Name of the Lord.
