Searching for hope?

Trees bare from winter’s chill stand stark and rigid along the mountain slope. They appear as charcoal skeletons void of life. My spirit, weary and worn, searching for hope among life’s shadows, is drawn to the image outside my window.

Catching a Glimpse of Hope

As the sun comes up, a beam of heavenly light streaks through the trees, casting a golden thread weaving among the barren branches.

It’s a startling sight.

This contrast of dark and light, winter and spring, hope and despair.

I can’t look away.

I suppose for those of us searching for hope, this is a glimpse of what it looks like -- the passing of darkness into light, the shedding of winter barrenness to embrace new life ... The abiding presence of our God.

The sky is morphing into a powdery blue now, the brilliance of sunrise has faded into the constant, the familiar, the comforting sure place of a blue sky.

But the golden light streaking through the darkened forest remains. The contrast isn’t as sharp now because of the morning radiance all around, and yet the color of the light is a distinct golden hue.

I suppose for those of us searching for hope, this is a glimpse of what it looks like — the passing of darkness into light, the shedding of winter barrenness to embrace new life …

The abiding presence of our God.

The golden light surely is a reminder that He will never leave us nor forsake us. He comes to us in our darkest moments and ushers in the dawn, bringing hope to our despair, peace to our overwhelm, and courage to our fear.

On this we can depend.

Hope is like a Golden Thread of Light

Throughout each of our lives as believers in Jesus, a golden thread is woven among the barren, broken places of our hearts. Its name is hope — hope born of knowing the One True God, hope that cannot help but appear just as clear and beautiful as the sunrise.

When we are searching for hope, God will always find a way to encourage His child.

When we are searching for hope, we may not always recognize its appearing. We may be blinded to its appearance because we’ve allowed circumstances to circumvent God’s promises. It’s easy to do, isn’t it?

But God will always find a way to encourage His child. His eyes roam to and fro across the earth seeking those who love Him and need to be strengthened (2 Chronicles 16:9).

His golden light of hope and faithfulness and abiding presence will always penetrate our darkness.

If we’ll let it.
