Before winter's chill, a burst of glory. Life goes on.

God’s message stood stoic before me resting against the hands of time, its grace shadowing the meadow grass with outstretched arms reaching toward heaven. The rhythm of life … a grand old maple. Winter is coming. Barren landscapes. Cold, harsh winds. Brittle, dead leaves. But before the winter blast, the maple tree bursts with glory, a declaration that life goes on.

Life Goes On, Season by Season

Fiery reds rub against the orange of apricots. Sprinkled in the kaleidoscope mix, bright yellow glistens in the sun. It seems the grand old maple recognizes the rhythm of life: spring, summer, fall, winter … and then spring returns again. Each season carries its own beauty, its own expression of God’s glory … if we’ll recognize it and celebrate.

Life goes on, come what may, and God remains.

The maple tree knows a cold, harsh winter lies ahead, and yet she praises her Creator with a pageantry of color as she lets go of what has been. Perhaps her worship strengthens her for the long winter ahead because her beauty actually comes from within and isn’t contingent on her circumstances.

Life will go on, season by season.

Life will go on, season by season.

Do I realize the beauty of God’s glory comes from within and isn’t contingent on my circumstances? The maple tree must know this because it is rejoicing with magnificent color, even though winter is coming. Do I walk in the knowledge that my life can give praise simply for who He is in the face of barren, bleak circumstances?

Paganini, a famous Italian violinist said, “Music is not in the instrument, but in the soul.”

The Glory of God’s Presence is Not Contingent on My Circumstances

The music of life — glorious praise to our Creator — is not dependent on external things. Genuine praise rises from our soul — that deep recess within where the Holy Spirit of God dwells. He is with us always. His joy. His peace. His comfort and guidance.

His love.

With us always.

And the glory of His presence throughout the rhythm of life is praise, even though we know winter will surely come.
