God's Presence - the perfect dwelling place.

God’s Presence – the perfect dwelling place.

High above the country road where branches spread bare and sky peeks through, a gathering of twigs, moss, and leaves cluster together to form a nest — a home. A dwelling place. The branches cup together like fingertips forming a hollow space to support the tiny chamber.

A perfect space for a perfect dwelling place.

A magnificent God and a tiny bird who matters to the One who made her.

And consider this … if He knows when the sparrow falls and He feeds the birds of the air, how much more does He care for you and me?

Indeed.

I long for the Lord. I yearn for His Presence — His glorious light infusing my darkened places.

The Psalmist speaks for me,

How lovely is your dwelling place,
    O Lord of Heaven’s Armies.
I long, yes, I faint with longing
to enter the courts of the Lord.
With my whole being, body and soul,
I will shout joyfully to the living God.
Even the sparrow finds a home,
and the swallow builds her nest and raises her young
at a place near your altar,
O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, my King and my God!
What joy for those who can live in your house,
always singing your praises. (Psalm 84, NLT)

It’s thought that the psalmist was envious of the sparrow who came freely into the temple courtyard and built her nest — her dwelling place — near the altar of the Lord where sacrifice was offered and prayers released and fellowship thrived. She entered through heaven’s gate, high above the tabernacle’s walls. She entered at will to perch upon the altar and sing her song of praise.

We, too, may enter the Holy of Holies through heaven’s gate — Jesus. Freely. Joyfully. Needy.

We are  children of the Most High God and He cares for us and loves us with an everlasting love.

“Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come, why should my heart be lonely and long for Heaven and home, when Jesus is my portion? My constant Friend is He: His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me…” **

High above the country road where branches spread bare and sky peeks through, a simple nest reminds me of my Father’s love — the perfect dwelling place.
