Lord, lead me beside the still, quiet waters of rest.

“The Lord is my Shepherd [to feed, to guide and to shield me],
I shall not want.
He lets me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still and quiet waters.
He refreshes and restores my soul (life);
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
for His name’s sake.” ~ Psalm 23:1-3, AMP

“God has told His people,
‘Here is a place of rest;
    let the weary rest here.
This is a place of quiet rest.’
    But they would not listen.” ~ Isaiah 28:12, NLT

“One day Moses said to the Lord, ‘You have been telling me, “Take these people up to the Promised Land.” But You haven’t told me whom You will send with me. You have told me, “I know you by name, and I look favorably on you.” If it is true that You look favorably on me, let me know Your ways so I may understand You more fully and continue to enjoy Your favor. And remember that this nation is Your very own people.’

“The Lord replied, ‘I will personally go with you, Moses, and I will give you rest—everything will be fine for you.’” ~ Exodus 33:12-14, NLT

You Restore My Soul by the Quiet Waters

Father, Your mercy is great, Your love beyond comprehension. I don’t deserve such love, yet You lavish it upon me. You turn my sorrow into joy and my despair into hope. Lead me beside the still and quiet waters of rest where You restore my soul. In Your presence, I find peace and contentment.

When You call to me to come and sit with You awhile, I don’t want to be stubborn and stiff-necked. I don’t want to continue in my own strength — I want my flesh to lie down and my spirit to rise up and say, “Yes, Lord. I’m coming. Your servant is listening.” I want to run to You with joy and anticipation, to lean into Your arms and rest from this old world and her troubles.

He leads me to green pastures by the quiet waters of rest and restores my soul.

I picture the lush green pastures growing in the desert places of Israel. You water them with a spring — a spring that produces a body of quiet waters, still and peaceful, a place of repose for the weary soul. A spring much like the living water that flows quietly within my soul nourishing and sustaining me. If I close my eyes, I can feel the gentle breeze brushing against my furrowed brow. Could it be the breath of Your Spirit, Lord? Are You meeting me there in the green pasture beside the quiet waters of rest?

You Are My Shepherd. I Lack No Good Thing

I need You, Lord. I need You to steady my heart and calm my fears. Let me feel the touch of Your hand, let me see the light of Your glory overcoming the impending darkness. Lead me beside the still, quiet waters of rest and restore my soul. For You are the great God, my Shepherd. I lack no good thing.

I love You, Lord. You are my living hope, the Rock on which I stand.

In the Name of Jesus, I pray,

Amen ~ let it be so
