In the valley deep, He is there. Regardless of what our tapestry looks like beneath the surface, His grace is enough, His love the very tether to His heart.

I pulled the hood on my jacket closer to ward off the chill in the air. Like the pattern in a tapestry repeated over and over, my footsteps trudged along our mountain road … over and over … my daily walk with Jesus consistent, predictable, and beautiful.

And usually beneath each step, a tangled mess of heartbreak and often frustration — just like the underside of a tapestry.

Our Journey of Faith is Much Like a Tapestry

I realized something today as I made it up the first hill, across the windswept ridge and down the next steep slope only to repeat the pattern with the next hill just past Plumb Nearly Road: across every hill and valley God has been with me.

I couldn't help but think about my journey of faith as a tapestry as I walked along the mountain road.
I couldn’t help but think about my journey of faith as a tapestry as I walked along the mountain road.

He really has. Daily.

He has shown Himself to me in the thunderheads on the horizon, in the light bursting through the shadows.

As I’ve walked among the shadows He has wiped my tears.

I believe He laughed with me as my favorite donkey happy-danced his way to the meadow gate to receive his carrot from my hand.

I feel His breath — ruach — upon my back as the gentle breeze escorts me along my path.

On really tough days, the Lord reminds me through a persistent shadow that as I keep my face toward the Son, surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life.

Because of His grace, our tapestry of faith is beautiful
Because of His grace, our tapestry of faith is beautiful

This winding road across the hills and ridges and ensuing valleys is the perfect metaphor for our walk with Jesus. No matter how high the mountain we climb, He is there cheering us on, and taking hold of our hand when the slope gets too steep.

In the valley deep, He is there. Regardless of what our tapestry looks like beneath the surface, His grace is enough, His love the very tether to His heart.

As I rounded the curve beneath the pine canopy on my way back home, I lifted my eyes toward heaven. The wind was stronger now pushing the pine branches up against one another. A quiet melody like that of a violin drifted through the trees as they rubbed together.

It’s His Grace That Makes Our Tapestry Beautiful

Oh, how my heart leaped within me! I recognized the praise Creation sings to our God and once again, I rejoiced in the knowledge that He is with me every step of every day.

I am not alone.

And neither are you.
