“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.’” ~ Psalm 91:1-2, NKJV

How Do I Get Off the Gerbil Wheel?
Lord, I’m striving. I can feel it in my frustration; I can feel it in my fatigue. Help me get off the gerbil wheel and abide in You once again.
In Your presence is where I want to be. I want to dwell in Your secret place with You and rest in the knowledge of who You are.
But I also want to walk in the purposes and plans You have for my life. I want my heart and mind to be at rest knowing that I’m doing my best to honor You with excellence as I work.
Hard work in my own strength feels like a gerbil wheel spinning and spinning and just wearing me down as I drift into being a people-pleaser. But when I focus on You, abide in You, love You with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength, my hard work is a joy.

It’s about You, Lord, what I do is for You and Your glory so that others will find the peace I have in You.
That is my heart’s desire.
That is why I do the things I do …
so others will know You and Your precious love.
I need Your help, Lord, to cease striving, to get off the gerbil wheel, and abide in You.
You are my joy.
You are my strength.
You are my peace.
Be Aware. Be On Guard.
You are the reason I work so hard, but I’m in danger of making my work an idol that I devote my heart and mind to. Please forgive me, Lord. Create a clean heart in me and renew a right spirit within me.

With You, the crooked places become straight, the overwhelm becomes purposeful and becomes easy. Your yoke is easy and Your burden is light.
Forgive me for trying to carry these burdens alone and for taking my eyes off You, if only for a minute. Because it only takes a minute before that gerbil wheel starts spinning incessantly and wearing me down.
I love You, Lord. You are my heart’s desire. My first love. I give You praise.
In Jesus’s Name I pray,
Amen
