When the road is long, God will give us strength to endure.

“The steps of a [good and righteous] man are directed and established by the Lord,
And He delights in his way [and blesses his path].
When he falls, he will not be hurled down,
Because the Lord is the One who holds his hand and sustains him.” ~ Psalm 37:23-24, AMP

“Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” ~ Deuteronomy 31:8, NLT

When the Road is Long and Valley Deep

Lord, You are the very air I breathe, my Life-Giver. Breathe on me anew. The road is long and valley deep. My heart hurts, my strength is gone, and the stress takes my breath away.

But then I sense You drawing near, gently lifting my chin so that our eyes meet and I remember. I remember I am not alone in the struggle.

Why do I let go of Your hand? Why do I often refuse Your help when the road is long and I grow weary?

Forgive me, Lord. Forgive my stubborn independent ways. I don’t think, in my heart, that I’m refusing YOU as I am focused on the problem and surrender to the frustration and angst.

But I’m not fooling myself either.

When I stomp away, slip on the rugged terrain, and finally sit down to pout, in reality I am refusing Your outstretched hand. Thank You for letting me see that. Thank You for the visual of tear-stained cheeks, skinned knees, and a little girl — me — climbing into Your arms to receive comfort and forgiveness.

You are a good, good Father.

When the road is long and I’m losing my strength, breathe on me, Lord. Let Your living water flow over and through me refreshing my soul. When the road is long, remind me that it is You who directs my path.

I can trust You.

I can trust You to make the crooked places straight.

The Lord Holds Our Hand When the Road is Long

I can always trust You to hold my hand so that I won’t slip and fall when the road is long and the valley deep. Thank You, Lord.

In Jesus’s name I pray,

Amen — let it be so
